Sam, The Alchemist, and Updates!!!

This last week has been an emotional roller coaster for me, because there were moments where I didn't know where I was going in life. Part of me started asking questions at the Subaru Maintainance Shop about becoming a Professional Ralley Racer. Another moment I was at a park collasped and didn't know what to do. Sam has helped me out by calming me down and lighting my way, I am gratiful for that.

"As he mused about these things, he realized that he had to choose between thinking of himself as the poor victim of a thief and as an adventurer in quest of his treasure.

'I'm an adventurer, looking for treasure,' he said to himself." (Alchemist, 42)

The plus side for this week is that I'm starting to observe and understand a little bit more of the model. More specifically, how the model or person in life moves and give that drawing a spark of something that is unique to me, motion and life :D I love making anything move, it excites me like Dodgeball.

My own critque for myself this week is to study the anatomy of the limbs a bit more. I also should start observing more characters. My own life critque, go be with my friends and be as sporty as I want! Take care! Critque and comments are welcomed, please....I want to improve to qualify for the Disney internship the following year or the year after that.

This section is my stuff from my sketchbook. Recently, I've been inspired by my friend Sara, who want to pursue art, and Sam's friend Ghia, who also wants to eventually go to CalArts; because of how they observe character and really understand their characters/friends. Both people are gifted. I wish to be more understanding of my friends, I've been a long time without hanging out with them.

Now I need to go to lunch with my family and do some good, healthy reading and planning. Take care :D

First round of sketches from Big Bear and Art Center

I've spent almost everyday at Art Center, figure drawing. Some days I miss out because I am sick, or important another event takes place the same day. When I looked through my batch of drawings I noticed the drawings have intelligence. I remember the first days at Art Center I was uber excited and paid attention to every detail that I could find on a person. Recently, not so much. I think because I have been spending time looking at the anatomy of the person and attempting to understand.

I like this as a fresh start.

For the next batch: Simplification and just nailing the whole figure down. I need to keep things simple. This is my goal.
I will keep doing technical drawings for the majority of the time, I like technical things, as well as motion.

Tomorrow is my sister's, April's, Graduation. Kudos to her for surviving high school. I'm proud of my sister :D Crazy ass cheerleader.

My Second Year sketchbook

I have just finished my second year here at CalARTs. Ian Worrel, an upper classman, told me the importance of having a sketchbook and to constantly sketch wherever I go. Cornelius Cole, my animation mentor, taught me that all my education is through self-learning and self-searching. I have to go out there and learn the things I want to learn on my own, like a constantly hungry animal. I may not have done as much sketching or writing in my sketchbook, but it is an improvement over last year. I'm aiming for steady improvement.

I remember eariler in the school year I use to draw from films almost every night, it's a very good habit to have. Whenever I had the chance I would also do little color thumbnails. For some reason, color appeals to me. Eventually the need to animate my film was greater than the need to paint and draw little thumbnaiils. Making a blog is a good reminder for me, because now I want to paint more. Hopefully next Saturday after figure drawing, I can go landscape painting or just create a new world with my brush; it will help me destress and enjoy the evening.
